Everyone loves a bit of decadence, but some desserts can have negative impacts on our bodies, moods, and energy levels.  Read the label on your chocolate-its cocoa powder, a fat, a sweetener, and perhaps (but hopefully not) a bunch of other yuckies.  I’ve swapped out the junk for healthy fats and a sweetener that is less likely to spike your blood sugar. Enjoy this rich treat that will satisfy any chocolate fan.

Ingredients

1 ripe banana, mashed

2 Tablespoons best quality cocoa powder (I love Valrhona or Saco Brands, don’t use Hershey’s)

1 Tablespoon natural peanut or almond butter

1/4 cup quick oats

1/8 teaspoon pure vanilla flavoring

1 Tablespoon agave nectar or xylitol

pinch of salt

Optional garnishes: crushed peanuts or almonds, unsweetened coconut flakes or additional cocoa powder

Directions

Mix all ingredients together.  Refrigerate mixture for 2 hours or until firm.  Form into balls. Roll in optional garnishes or leave plain.  Freeze for 1 hour, let stand at room temp for 5 minutes, and serve with a mint sprig.
